Biomechanical assessment in Dublin

A biomechanical assessment tells us why your foot or leg hurts, not just where. We take your full history, test how well your foot and ankle move and how strong they are, and, where it will help, measure how force travels through your foot as you walk across our Footscan® pressure plate. Put together, these tell us what's overloaded and what it will take to get you back to the things you enjoy doing.

Biomechanical Assessment clinical care at Foot Focus Podiatry Dublin

Who is this for? Anyone with foot, heel, ankle or lower-leg pain that hasn't settled, keeps coming back, or is changing how you walk, run or work. It's also where we start if you're thinking about custom orthotics.

What happens during biomechanical assessment at Foot Focus?

  1. Your historyWe give you time to talk through when your issue began, how it developed over time, what it is stopping you from doing, what you have tried previously to fix it, and what success looks like for you.
  2. Muscle and joint testingWe check how well your foot and ankle move together and carry out baseline strength measurements to see where your foot is operating right now and what is needed to reach your treatment goal.
  3. Footscan® pressure analysisWe watch you walk across our Footscan® pressure plate mat. Thousands of data points document how forces are distributed through your foot. Where forces build up over an area that tested weak shows us where the pain is coming from and how to get you better.
  4. Your plan and ongoing supportUsing your measurements and scans, we work with you to devise a tailored treatment plan to reach your goal. You leave with clarity, a plan, and our team supporting you all the way.

Frequently asked questions about biomechanical assessment

What should I bring?

The shoes you wear most, including any running shoes, any insoles or orthotics you've already bought, and any X-ray or scan reports. Wear or bring shorts so we can see how your legs and feet move.

How much does it cost, and is it covered by health insurance?

The price depends on what you need, and we'll tell you before you book. Most Irish health insurance plans that include podiatry will cover some or all of it. Check your policy or ask your insurer, and we'll give you a receipt to claim with.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with any of our clinics, online or by phone, and you'll be seen by a CORU-registered podiatrist.
