Corn and callus removal in Dublin
Corns and calluses are areas of thickened skin that build up where your foot takes extra pressure or rubbing. A callus is a wider patch of hard skin and usually isn't painful; a corn is a smaller, deeper core that presses in and can be quite painful, like a stone in your shoe. We remove them safely and look at why they formed, so they're less likely to come back. At Foot Focus in Finglas and Mount Merrion, our CORU-registered podiatrists can see you without a GP referral.

Does this sound like you?
- A hard, painful spot on a toe, the ball of your foot or your heel
- It feels like walking on a small stone
- Thick, yellowish or cracked hard skin that keeps building up
- Pain when your shoes press on the area

If that sounds familiar, a quick appointment can take the pressure off.

What causes corns and calluses?
They form where your foot takes extra pressure or rubbing. The most common reasons:
- Your shoes. Pressure or rubbing from shoes that are tight, narrow or loose.
- The way you walk. The way your foot moves when you walk, putting extra load on one area.
- Toe and foot shape. Bunions, clawed or hammer toes changing where pressure falls.
- Skin and lifestyle. Dry skin, walking barefoot or long hours on your feet.

The Foot Focus method for corns and calluses
We take the pressure off first, then look at why it's building up so it's slower to come back.
Step 1: Safe removal
Corns and hard skin are carefully removed with sterile instruments. It shouldn't hurt, and most people feel the difference straight away.
Step 2: Finding the cause
We look at where the pressure is coming from: your shoes, your foot shape and the way you walk.
Step 3: Padding and advice
Padding, footwear advice and skin care to take the pressure off and slow the hard skin building up again.
Step 4: Orthotics if needed
If the way your foot moves is driving it, we may suggest an orthotic to change where the pressure falls.
Start with an assessment
No GP referral needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is corn removal painful?
It shouldn't be. Corns and hard skin are removed carefully with sterile instruments, and most people find it a relief rather than uncomfortable. If anything is tender, tell your podiatrist and they'll adjust.
Will my corns come back?
They can, if whatever is causing the pressure doesn't change. That's why we look at your shoes, your foot shape and the way you walk, not just the corn itself, and give you advice to slow it building up again.
Should I use corn plasters?
We'd advise against them, especially if you have diabetes or poor circulation. Many contain acid that can damage the healthy skin around the corn. It's safer to have it removed by a podiatrist.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly with any of our clinics, online or by phone, and you'll be seen by a CORU-registered podiatrist.
